Course objectives
Students will learn the procedure of preparing a teaching lesson of the Czech language, possible ways of students assessment. They will get the information about various types of coursebooks and teaching materials both for the language, and the literary education, with the criteria of their assessment and with the option of preparing their own teaching materials.
Learning outcomes
Students will be able to prepare for a class (including the motivation and feedback), choose appropriate methods and forms. They will learn to correct both texts and speeches of their pupils. They will be able to compare different types of coursebooks and competently discuss their concepts. Students will become familiar with a variety of materials intended to teach literary education, communication and writing, with the criteria for assessing these materials and be able to use these criteria to evaluate the coursebook and independently prepare teaching materials.
Syllabus
  • Czech language (communication and writing):
  • 1. The educational content of teaching the Czech language at elementary schools.
  • 2. Methods and forms of teaching the Czech language, the organisation of the lesson. Motivation, feedback. Additional materials: texts for the elicitation of curriculum, educational games.
  • 3. Types of language-teaching lessons.
  • 4. Preparing a language-teaching lesson.
  • 5. Preparing a writing-teaching lesson.
  • 6. The assessment of pupils’ work.
  • 7. Teaching specific thematic fields.
  • 8. Comparison of different types of coursebooks, webs, apps, games, etc., discussion regarding their concepts.
  • Literary education:
  • 1. The interpretation of a text and essential questions of its practical application.
  • 2. Familiarisation with the variety of current reading-books for the 2nd stage of elementary school, and other teaching materials.
  • 3. The criteria for assessing reading-books and coursebooks (content, structure, educational tools).
  • 4. The importance of management features for reading-books and possible approaches to their analysis.
  • 5. The adaptation of teaching materials for a specific concept and an educational strategy of a course.
  • 6. The possible conceptions for custom materials intending to teach working with texts (worksheets, and similar).

Teaching methods
Taught as: seminar
Methods: students actively discuss the educational aspects of coursebooks and reading books. They work with selected language curriculum and literary texts;
in the language (communication and stylistic) part: students' teaching within the framework of cooperative learning on different levels of the education process (didactic and metadidactic).
Assessment methods
Course completion: colloquy

Requirements for completing the course:
Lit. part:
Writing a complex essay including a didactic treatment of literary curriculum as a basis for the colloquy.

Lang. part:
Preparing class teaching for the seminar (cooperative work of a group of students) presented at the seminar;
and preparation for own lesson(s) at grammar school (min. 45 minutes of any topic) according to the principles set out at the seminar. (Written form only.)
