Course objectives
The goal of the course is to develop written and verbal communication skills, to deepen knowledge of Russian language on the lexical and grammatical aspects, development of pragmatic competence according to CEFR.
Learning outcomes
At the end of this course students will be able to discuss the conversational topics; to express their views with using a new vocabulary; to apply grammatical and stylistic knowledge of the Russian language in written and verbal communication.
Syllabus
  • 1.-2. Fashion variability. Expression of modality.
  • 3.-4. Nonverbal communication in intercultural context. Facial expressions and gestures in members of different ethnicities.
  • 5.-6. Business: the way to success? Use of hyphens in Russian.
  • 7.-8. Man and society. Sentences in Russian.
  • 9.-10. Self-development: workaholism vs procrastination.
  • 11.-12. Science and research. The importance of science today. Scientific style.

Teaching methods
Seminar, class discussion on given topics, homework, group projects within the areas discussed, reading and listening of Russian texts.
Assessment methods
The course is completed by a final final exam.
The condition for admission to the exam is active participation in classes and continuous fulfillment of homework.
The exam consists of written and oral parts. The written part will test students' linguistic knowledge of the entire period of study.
The oral exam includes: an unprepared monologue (within the topics covered) and a dialogue in the form of a paired-speaking test.
