Course objectives
The aim of the course is to acquaint students with the basic overview of mental/behavior problems and disorders occurring in pre-school age. After completing the course, students will be able to discriminate healthy development and its pathological deviations. They will have a basic overview of psychological problems and pathological phenomena that may occur in preschool age (CAN syndrome, anxiety and depressive experience, separation-anxiety reaction, sleep problems and disorders, psychosocial deprivation, activity and attention disorder, problems and disorders behavior, autism spectrum disorders, delays in development, mental disability, sexual abuse, enuresis, encopres, sibling rivalry, etc.). They will be acquainted with basic therapeutical-educational procedures.Will get knowledge about teacherś competencies in this cases. They will get an overview of the experts with whom they will be able to cooperate in case of difficulties. The student will also be able to define and identify educational, and teaching goals leading to the rehabilitation of given difficulties and propose basic rehabilitation steps.
Learning outcomes
At the end of this course, students will: - be able to describe most common deviations in psychological development, be oriented in basic psychopathological terms - have a basic overview of the possibilities of reeducation and therapy of the most common psychological problems in preschool child - be able to apply information on psychological deviations and difficulties in the individual approach to education and training of child - Know the needs related to the social and emotional development of preschool children - be able to recognize their competencies in the process of working with a child with psychological difficulties and, if necessary, have an overview of the experts that can be collaborated with and to refer to the child's family

  • - General aspects of mental development in preschool child (physical, motor, emotional, social development; thinking and speech; drawing and play) - Possibilities of cooperation with other professionals (clinical psychologist, counseling psychologist, child psychiatrist, pediatrician, social worker) - A child with special educational needs - Mental disability, development delay (characteristics, diagnostics, education, therapy) - psychosocial deprivation, CAN syndrome, sexual abuse (characteristics, diagnostics, education, therapy) - anxiety and depression, separation-anxiety (characteristics, diagnostics, education, therapy) - sleep problems and disorders, enuresis and encopresis (characteristics, diagnostics, education, therapy) - activity and attention disorder, behavioral problems and disorders (characteristics, diagnostics, education, therapy) - autistic spectrum disorders (characteristics, diagnostics, education, therapy) - sibling rivalry, presence of mental disorder in the family (characteristics, diagnostics, education, therapy) - School maturity
