Course objectives (in Czech)
Students will develop all four skills, reading, listening, speaking and writing for better communication. They will continue to work on extending the range and accuracy of the language as well as the register. They will learn to analyse the language for teaching purposes and will be aware of the fact that they have changed their roles -from being the users of the language into being the source of information about the language and language model providers. At the end of the course (i.e. after two semesters of the Practical language course) they are expected to achieve CAE level (according to the Common European Framework of Reference it is C1 level).
Syllabus (in Czech)
  • The course will cover U 6-11 from the book Inside Out Upper Intermediate (see Literature below). Students will be assigned to two classes which will each meet 2 hours a week, for a total of 4 hours a week.

Assessment methods (in Czech)
Attendance at the seminars is absolutely required. Any student who misses more than 3 classes, without agreeing with the teacher in advance, will not pass the course. In order to qualify for the complex exam at the end of the semester, students need to achieve at least 70% in the Continuous Assessment (throughout the semester). The Continuous Assessment is necessary in each of the two classes the student is in. It is based on: 1. class participation (active participation, preparation for the lessons, punctuality, initiative, independent learning); 2. essays, at least one in each class; 3. four achievement quizzes (2 in each class); and 4. Oral presentations given in to the other students. If the students achieve 70%, they will then sit for the complex exam, which in the Practical Language part will have both a written test (including testing all four skills) and an oral interview.
