This is the second stage of a six term course of practical language intended to meet the needs of the future primary school teachers. The students' expected level is B1 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages: Can understand the main points of clear standard input on familiar matters regularly encountered in work, school, leisure, etc. Can deal with most situations likely to arise whilst travelling in an area where the language is spoken. Can produce simple connected text on topics which are familiar or of personal interest. Can describe experiences and events, dreams, hopes & ambitions and briefly give reasons and explanations for opinions and plans.

Cíle předmětu
The main objective of this course is to focus on grammar and enhance vocabulary and language skills: speaking, writing, reading and listening at the pre-intermediate level. The basic study material for the course is the New English File Pre-Intermediate coursebook supplemented by various additional materials. At the end of the course students should be able to: discuss everyday topics, communicate in everyday situations, read and understand texts at the pre-intermediate level and communicate fluently in the target language.
Osnova
  • 1st lesson: Unit 7A,7B Fears and phobias. Film industry. Present Perfect Simple. Present Perfect Simple in contrast with Past Simple.
  • 2nd lesson: Unit 7C,7D Personal History. Inventions. Used to. The Passive Voice.
  • 3rd lesson: Practical English. Revise and Check. Test.
  • 4th lesson: Unit 8A,8B Free time and weekends. Lifestyle. Something, anything, nothing. Adjectives (e.g. bored x boring). Quantifiers: too, not enough.
  • 5th lesson: Unit 8C,8D Lifestyle: mornings. Phrasal verbs. So, neither + auxiliaries.
  • 6th lesson: Practical English. Revise and Check. Unit 9A,9B Past Perfect. Reported Speech.
  • 7th lesson: Unit 9 Revise and Check.
  • Exam period: Credit test - oral

Metody hodnocení
Students have to pass 2 short tests focused on the vocabulary and grammar covered during the term (70%), submit their teaching practice papers and only then can they sit the final oral exam testing their overall grammar and vocabulary knowledge at the end of the term (70%). Students have to prepare for the lessons throughout the whole term and do homework for each lesson, which is the base for their active participation in the seminars. Most of the work is based on students' self-study.
