The English course for intermediate students who can understand the main points of clear standard input on familiar matters regularly encountered in work, school, leisure, etc., who can produce simple connected text on topics which are familiar or of personal interest, and can read texts and briefly give reasons and explanations for opinions and plans.

Course objectives
V povinně-volitelném předmětu Angličtina pro sociální pedagogy si student upevní dosažené jazykové znalosti ze středni školy (předpokládá se složená maturitní zkouška z angličtiny) a seznámí se s vybranými akademickými dovednostmi v AJ (ústní prezentace, diskuse, argumentace, shrnutí a výběr klíčových informací aj). K získání zápočtu je vyžadována aktivní účast na jazykových cvičeních, ústní a písemné prezentace a úspěšné složeni pisemného testu na urovni B1 (70% úspěšnost) na konci semestru.

HOMEWORK 1 1) Reading comprehension sheet: “New ideas for improving education systems” - instructions 2) TEXT – “SCHOOL EDUCATION” – reading Grammar – present and past tenses revision Consultation 2 School Education in the Czech Republic compared with the U.K. and U.S. systems. (In-class discussion based on experience. Making a statement, arguing the point) Writing CV, Filling-in a form. HOMEWORK 2 Write a Letter of Application (reply to an advertisement). Attach your CV. Grammar - Present Perfect Tense revision. Consultation 3 My Work, My Course of Studies. Letter of Application. CV (Opinion exchange. Job interview tips) HOMEWORK 3 PRESENTATION: ‘My Work and My Study’ (including social work web resources) (Current employment; basic information on Masaryk University Faculty of Education, courses description, opinion, etc.) Consultation 4 21st century problems - environment, drug abuse, wars, terrorism, etc. Focus on social problems. Social work texts based on the web resources (Research carried out by the student) PRESENTATIONS – ‘My Work and My Study’ Consultation 5 1) PRESENTATIONS – ‘My Work and My Study’ 2) FINAL TEST (Vocabulary and grammar revision. Composition – expressing opinion) Credit requirements: 1) Active participation in the lessons. 2) Home assignments submitted in due time. 3) In-class Presentations (50% of the final grade). 4) The end-of-the-term test (50% of the final grade) based on a special task (70% pass). The student who has not completed continuous assessments during the particular semester cannot be credited. (Student, který nemá splněné průběžné úkoly z jednotlivých témat v rámci daného semestru, nemůže získat kredity, ani zápočet)

Level B1 English Course Credit requirements: Active participation in the lessons. E-learning assignments. Oral presentations. The end-of-the-term test based on a special task (70% pass limit). The student who has not completed continuous assessment during the particular semester cannot be credited.

The course is taught annually.
General note: Předmět bude zapsán po udělení zápočtu za Vstupní test CJV_AJA2k, který si student zapíše v podzimním semestru, test na úrovni B1 složí v lednu, a předmět absolvuje v jarním semestru. Počet míst v kurzu je limitován kapacitou pracoviště.
