Abstract
At the end of the course students should have overview of the contemporary children ́s literature and should get impulses for self-reflection and work with literary works in preschool education, all in connection with curriculum.
Key topics
New literary trends in children ́s literature from beginning of 21. century, following literary development after November 1989 Revolution (all in examples of specialized publishing houses Albatros, Argo, Baobab, Brio, Labyrint, Meander, Paseka), volatile age group category in contemporary children ́s literature 2. Literary-critical reflection of contemporary children ́s literature, literary awards and polls in children ́s literature 3. Picture books for pre-readers, blending of textual and pictorial part, development from book to an object or toy 4. Examples of contemporary picture book for preschool children 5. Present topics in contemporary literature for preschool children 6. Examples of literary works reflecting contemporary topics in Czech and world children ́s literature 7. Poetry for pre-readers and its development in last decade 8. Danger of simplicity in contemporary children ́s literature
Approaches, practices, and methods used in teaching
Students will acquire forms of contemporary children ́s literature, will analyse poetics of contemporary writers and should be able to identify style of great authors of given period. Students will develop all their literary and interpretative competences. The aim is to improve communication with literary works. Students will creatively use knowledge from lectures and own work with given literature. Students can regularly consult with teacher.
Method of verifying learning outcomes and course completion requirements
Students will give a speech about own work, they will prove capability of critical thinking in common discussion. Teacher puts emphasis on ability to evaluate poetics, compare works within contemporary Czech and world literature and important is to defend stated arguments. Termination: oral discussion-based university exam
