Course objectives
Philosophy of education enables pedagogy to find links to philosophy of culture and philosophy of science by means of philosophical anthropology, noetics and ethics.
Syllabus
  • Topics Noneuropean ancient philosophical concepts and education. Greek ancient philosophers and their opinions on education. Roman philosophers opinions on education. Education in the middle age and its philosopical background. Enlightenement and rationalism in education. Philosophical concepts in J. A. Komenskýs educational system. Modern age philosophy and its educational reflection. Postmodernism and its reflection in pedagogical thinking. Czech philosophical traditions and education (Chelčický, Komenský, Masaryk, Patočka etc.). The essence of education and its philosophical background. The aims of education and its philosophical aspects. The problem of cognition. Axiological issues in education. Morality in the system of values. Beauty in the system of values. Health in the system of values. Lifestyle from the point of view of philosophy. Culture, philosophy, science and pedagogy. The ideal of personality in philosophical reflection. Professional morality of teachers.
