Course objectives
At the end of this course students will be able to orientate in the field of the functional and formal morphology. Studnt will be able to classify the subject of the morphology as a linguistic discipline. Based on gained knowledge, students will be familiar with the morphological terminology (morpheme, morph, allomorph, and grammatical structure of the word). Students will also understand the criteria of the classification of parts of speech, grammatical cathegories of nouns, adjectives and verbs. Student will be able to characterise individual parts of speech (their meaning, forms, doublets, specialties, usage).Student will explain the problems of stylistic aspects in morhology. Also student will master developing tendencies in current Czech morphology.

  • 1. Subject of morpology, its place among other linguistic disciplines. 2. Morpheme, morph, allomorph. 3. Structure of word form. 4. Criterion for classification of parts of speech. 5. Grammatical categories of nouns, adjectives and verbs. 6. Characteristics of individual parts of speech - meaning, forms, doublets,specialties, usage. 7. Trends of the development in morphology. 8. Stylistic aspects in morphology. 9. Morphology in the Czech language taught at school. 10. Morphology in the Czech National Corpus.
