Course objectives
At the end of the course students should be able to: - to explain the most important linquistic styles, especially the functional styles, - to respect the language, stylistic and communication standards when speakung, - to understand and explain the dynamics of functional styles, - to interpret the stylistic theory and understand it.
Syllabus
  • 1. Orientation in the contemporary stylistic terminology. 2. Stylistic factors and their reflection in differentiated verbal communication. 3. Style differentiation of the contemporary Czech language as a reflection of a dynamic development of communication. 4. Formations and transformations of particular functional styles (publicist style, advertising style and others). 5. Characteristic features of functional styles (basic and principal styles from the social aspect). 6. Constant and variable stylistic values of the means of expression. 7. Levels of style, development of characteristic features (mentioned in lexicography). 8. Composition, style procedures and their modifications in a real communication.

Teaching methods
Lectures. A lecture combined with sebsequent on the specialized issues of the subject.
Assessment methods
Subject is finished by credit. Credit requirements: Written test in the end of the term. The test includes approximately 20 short questions focused to elementary language phenomena. To be successfull student has to answer 80 % of them.
