Course objectives
Upon completion of the course the students will understand and be able to explain the issue of health disorders, and have good command of appropriate techniques and methods for improving the function of the musculoskeletal system. The students will also use the knowledge gained in lessons for the prevention of poor posture and obesity. The students will also be able to assess and select from unconventional forms of teaching, unconventional PE tools and equipment in the 1st stage of elementary school with a focus on the psychological aspect of inducing joy of movement.
Learning outcomes
The students will be able to understand, explain and use the basic knowledge of physical education in the area of health promoting physical education and psychomotor skills. They will be able to use the knowledge and skills in the development of physical skills of younger school-aged children.
Syllabus
  • 1 Basic concepts of health promoting physical education, types of impairment, appropriate remedies. Importance of physical activity for healthy development of an individual, teaching the habit of good posture.
  • 2 Principles of addressing muscle imbalances, training of correct movement stereotypes, methods of examination and assessment of body posture.
  • 3 Appropriate compensatory exercises – stretching, strengthening, breathing and relaxation exercises for children with poor posture, or as prevention of poor posture.
  • 4 Demonstrations of segments of PE lessons and physical activity moments using suitable techniques and methods aimed at health promoting physical education.
  • 5 Exercises on large balls and chairs, exercises with soft balls.
  • 6 – 11 Theoretical knowledge based on the European Forum of Psychomotricity, classification. Learning about unconventional PE equipment according to various psychomotor areas. New perspectives of physical activity with music, relaxation, mental hygiene, feelings of tension and relief in mutual contact. Use of simple traditional as well as unconventional apparatus and equipment in teaching the ability to enjoy movement, either individually or in a group.

Verbal, demonstrative, and practical.
Assessment methods
Active participation in lessons; knowledge of muscles and muscle groups with practical demonstrations of suitable strengthening and stretching exercises; development of a psychomotor aid and written description of its application in a single psychomotor activity.
