Course objectives
The aim of the subject is to ensure the acquisition of basic mathematical background knowledge (logic, set theory, theory of binary relations) as a precondition for developing mathematical pre-literacy of children in the kindergarten. To understand the various concepts of numbers. The student will be able to apply this knowledge for the development of cognitive abilities in mathematics in course of the Framework Education Program for Pre-school education fulfilment.
Learning outcomes
Upon completion of the course the student: • will have knowledge of theoretical background of propositional calculus, of set theory and of binary relations as precondition of understanding of the natural number theory. • will be able to apply acquired knowledge during own educational practise for development of pre-numerical thinking of children. • will be able to formulate and understand the contribution of pre-numerical and numerical thinking for the development of personality of the pre-school age children.
Syllabus
  • Basics of propositional calculus and of set theory, their relations, their use in everyday communication. Binary relations, characteristics of the relations and their application when working with data - equivalence, sorting, ordering, mapping, comparing. The activities taking advantage of relations and of projection for pre-numerical thinking development. The concept of natural numbers, the introduction and basic characteristics. Application of mathematical concepts in appropriate examples of kindergarten activities.
