Course objectives
At the end of the course students will have basic knowledge about history of mathematics. They will have gained some ideas of how to use it in mathematics classes.
Learning outcomes
Successful graduates will be aware of major periods of the development of mathematics.
Syllabus
  • Topics of the lectures: Origins of mathematis Mathematics in Egypt and Orient. Greec mathematics, first crises Mathematics in Middle Ages. Origin of Calculus, second crisis mathematics in the 19th century. Third crisis. Some well-known mathematicians Reading: Křišťan z Prachatic: Algorismus prosaycus Alcuin: Propositiones ad Acuendos Juvenes (selection) Problems of Ancient Egyptian mathematics (bread and beer tasks, fractions) Various definitions of a limit Practical mathematics textbooks

Assessment of classroom activity. Colloquium on the basis of discussion of the seminar paper.
