- Course objectives
- The purpose of the lecture is making the system of the knowledge of the word forming based on the knowledge from the primary and secondary school. The students should understand word forming as a pragmatic process and they should understand linguistic describing rules of the production and reproduction of the words. There are explained the fundamental terminology of the word forming and the algorithm of the analysis based on the process of word forming based on the categories of the onomasiology and word forming, on the recognising type of the word forming and some variant of the words. It should lead to the understanding the word forming system, to the development of the ability to make the word forming analysis and differing it from the word analysis in other language strata. The students shall use the knowledge of word forming in the teaching practice.
- Learning outcomes
- Students are familiarized with the terminology of word-forming and word-processing algorithms, understand the overall word-formation system and its description, are capable of word-forming analysis and its distinction from the analysis of the structure of words from other language levels. Acquired knowledge is to serve future teachers in educating pupils to their own conscious vocabulary activities

- 1. Development stages of word formation in Czech. 2. Word formation and Czech linguistic tradition. 3. Czech word-forming theory in connection with Pražský lingvistický kroužek (M. Dokulit et al). 4. Description of word-forming system in contemporary grammar books. 5. Formation of words in onomastic and grammatical plans of present Czech. 6. Tendence of development in the contemporary Czech word formation.

- Teaching is based on the methods of critical thinking, analysis, synthesis, etc.
- Assessment methods
- To successfully complete the course, it is necessary to present or submit (in writing – details will be provided during the lecture) an original word-formation worksheet designed for a single lesson. The worksheet should focus on achieving selected word-formation outcomes from the national curriculum for primary education (RVP ZV). It must also include a methodological commentary with expected answers/results for the worksheet.
