Abstract
The aim of the course is to make students familiar with the basic manifestations of learning disorders in mathematics teaching. Students will learn the problems of pupils with specific learning disabilities in mathematics and the possibilities of their correction. They will be acquainted with suitable mathematical tools and methods of solving mathematical problems.
Learning outcomes
This course offers an engaging introduction to the challenges faced by pupils with specific learning disabilities in mathematics and, more importantly, to practical ways of supporting them. Students will explore how thoughtfully chosen teaching aids — such as fraction towers, visual and graphic representations, and geometric interpretations — can make abstract mathematical concepts more accessible, meaningful, and easier to understand.

By the end of the course, students will gain:

  • a clear overview of common mathematical learning difficulties,

  • insight into effective remedial strategies,

  • experience with teaching aids that support conceptual understanding,

  • and practical methods for solving selected types of mathematical problems in an inclusive and learner-friendly way.

Key topics
The course emphasizes hands-on activities and visual thinking, showing how mathematics can be taught in a way that fosters deeper understanding rather than rote memorization. Many of the approaches discussed are beneficial not only for pupils with learning difficulties, but also for learners who have previously struggled with mathematics or developed a negative attitude toward the subject.
