Abstract
The goal of the course is to develop students' communicative competencies across six selected thematic areas (emotions, health, nationalities, media, art, and architecture). The course focuses on expanding vocabulary and consolidating advanced grammatical structures, particularly adverb spelling, irregular comparisons, and the use of derivative prepositions, to achieve fluent and sophisticated expression.
Learning outcomes

Upon completion of the course, students will be able to: 

  • describe human emotions and internal states using appropriate vocabulary and correct adverb spelling;
  • utilize fixed verb-noun collocations related to a healthy lifestyle in spoken discourse;
  • form and correctly use possessive adjectives within the context of nations and nationalities;
  • critically discuss the influence of mass media on society using irregular degrees of comparison for adjectives and adverbs;
  • apply rules for using derivative (secondary) prepositions when describing works of art and architecture;
  • characterize historical and modern architectural monuments and compare the appearance of a contemporary city with its past.

Approaches, practices, and methods used in teaching
Seminar, class discussion on given topics, homework, group projects within the areas discussed, reading and listening of Russian texts.
Method of verifying learning outcomes and course completion requirements

The examination consists of two parts: 

  • a) Written test: a minimum score of 75% is required. Upon successful completion of the written part, the student may register for the oral part.
  • b) Oral part: the student engages in free conversation with the instructor on assigned topics.

Assessment criteria: the accuracy, fluency, and complexity of monologic and dialogic oral speech are evaluated, as well as the ability to achieve the communicative goal.

Alternate completion
In the event of an internship abroad, the course may be completed in an alternative format. The student shall study all teaching materials independently and continuously upload homework assignments to the "Assignment Submission" folder (Odevzdávárna) in the Information System.
