Abstract
The main aim of the course is to provide undergraduates with a basic orientation in the field; undergraduates will acquire basic concepts, become familiar with the archive network in the Czech Republic and its development, and gain a basic overview of archive activities.
Learning outcomes
Upon completing the course students will be able to:
- explain the differences between archival institutions;
- name and characterise basic archival norms;
- define basic archival terms;
- understand the basic development of the discipline (archival education, archival manuals);
- describe the structure of the Czech archival network;
- describe the basic types of archival aids;
- describe the basic archival activities

  • 1.Basic characteristics of archival science, guides, literature, periodicals;
  • 2.Definition of the term archive and memory institution;
  • 3.Basic concepts: archive material, archive fund, collection, document, fund creator, NAD organizational principles;
  • 4.Basic archive activities – pre-archival care, records management;
  • 5.Basic archive activities – processing, access, preservation;
  • 6.Main points of the development of archival science abroad, foreign archival education;
  • 7.Main points of archival development in the Czech Republic and Czech archival education;
  • 8.Structure of the archival network in the Czech Republic, types of archive and groups of funds kept in them
