- Course objectives
- The aim of the course is:
- reading authentic texts in Finnish,
- developing the ability to analyze morphology and syntax,
- learning basic translation approaches and rules. - Learning outcomes
- After completing the course, students will be able to:
- understand longer and more complex Finnish texts, both in terms of ideas and language;
- use common terms related to Finnish morphology and syntax;
- think about Czech translations of foreign-language texts as specific products. - Syllabus
- The Finnish texts read in the course are selected by the teacher with regard to the students' level of proficiency and the material covered in the cultural history courses. Emphasis is placed both on texts that have already been translated into Czech and published (students then compare their translations with the work of professional translators and at the same time learn about translation criticism and theory) and on authentic, as yet untranslated texts. The number of texts depends on the degree of active participation of students in class.
