- Course objectives
- The aim of the subject is to familiarise students with the most significant turning points in the development of Greek literature from late Antiquity to early modern period. Students will become familiar with the most significant Byzantine authors and they will get to know certain works of Byzantine literature (translations into Czech or a world language). They will be capable of independent searching for other information in the field in relevant scholarly literature.

- Introduction to Byzantine Literature (development, genres, the role of literature in Byzantine society, the position of Byzantine literature within the development of European literature)
- Fundamental historical events and personalities of Greek cultural area between the 4th and the 15th century A.D.
- Beginning of Modern Greek literature in the Middle Ages
- Literature reading (translation)
- Students’ papers on Byzantine literary works in Czech translations, possibly translations into a world language
