Course objectives
The course introduces students to the possibilities of working in various types of editorial activities (publishing, journalism, cultural institutions...) through a combination of theoretical seminars and practical excursions. After completing the course, the student should have a better idea of the current form of editorial operations, which can be used in the search for employment during and after studies.
Learning outcomes
After completing the course, the student will:
– theoretically familiarized with selected problematic aspects of editorial and editorial practice through presentations by external guests and reading assigned literature in study support;
– thanks to completed excursions to selected literary, media and cultural institutions, know the specifics of their work;
– to have practical experience with the operation of selected institutions thanks to the practical tasks and the final project;
- to better orient oneself in the possibilities of further career direction.
Syllabus
  • Introductory information about work in the seminar;
  • familiarization with current publishing practice;
  • selected problems of contemporary translation;
  • excursion to a selected publishing house;
  • possibilities of application in the Czech media and their current status;
  • excursion to the selected news media;
  • other options for editorial activities;
  • excursion to a selected cultural institution;
  • libraries, catalogs and rules;
  • excursion to a selected library;
  • joint activity with foreign colleagues;
  • final presentation of projects.
  • THE SPECIFIC DATES AND CONTENTS OF THE MEETING WILL BE SPECIFIED ON THE BASIS OF THE AGREED DATES BEFORE THE START OF THE SEMINAR.

Teaching methods
Seminars combining theoretical introduction to the issue and joint discussions, excursions to selected institutions, use of e-learning support for study materials and supplementary materials, creation of a final project.
Assessment methods
Credit will be awarded for preparation and presentation of the final project, active work at the seminar including previous preparation, regular attendance (maximum 2 unexcused absences).
