Course Enrolment Limitations
The course is offered to students of any study field.
Course objectives
The lecture will introduce main tendencies of asbtract and minimalist art from 1945 up to present and main artists working within these idioms. The aim is to introduce work of leading artists from the late modernism to present, deepen students´knowledge about the art of recent past and ůprovide them with analytical tools for interpretation of contemporary art.
Learning outcomes
Students will be able to present main mailstones and artists in the development of abstract art after WW II.
Syllabus
  • Roots of abstract art in pre-war Europe. New york school of 1940s and 1950s - abstract expressionism and action painting. Color-field painting. Post-paintery abstraction and hard-edge painting. Informel, tachisme and other tendencies in Europe. Minimalism of 1960s. Abstract painting of 1970s and 1980s. Concrete painting. Contemporary abstract painting.
