Course objectives
Italian Literary Paths. The aim of the course is to help students develop their Italian comprehension skills through reading some texts and conversation. The student will thus be able to deepen their lexical knowledge and experiment with new syntactic structures.
Learning outcomes
At the end of the course students: expand their vocabulary; advantage their understanding of several morphological and syntactic aspects of Italian; have a direct knowledge of some Italian literary texts.
Syllabus
  • The course focuses on reading narrative excerpts in which the theme of walking is central. It will reflect on the relationship between man and nature through Italian history from the economic boom (‘50s-’60s) to the present day. 60s) to the present day. The authors under consideration are: Anna Maria Ortese, Guido Piovene, Pier Paolo Pasolini, Cesare Zavattini, Gianni Celati, Vitaliano Trevisan, Michela Murgia, Igiaba Scego, Wu Ming 2. These readings will also provide an insight into Italian cultural history and the Italian geography.
Literature
  • Instructor will provide students with handouts related to the readings on the topics covered by the course.
Teaching methods
The course will be conducted in Italian. Literary texts will be read in Italian. Students will receive weekly reading assignments and will be expected to actively participate in the class discussions. Students are strongly suggested to attend the departmental seminars on Italian literature taught by visiting professors.
Assessment methods
Final oral presetation and active participation in class discussions. Attendance 80%.
