- Course objectives
- The course presents development trends in the field of information services and user information needs in contemporary society. Students will learn about key theories of information science, principles of design thinking, and megatrends that influence the information society. Attention is also paid to science and technology studies (STS) and the role of cultural and creative industries.
- Learning outcomes
- 1) To oneself Analyzes one's own information behavior and identifies one's information needs with the support of basic models of information science. Applies design thinking methods to learning planning and personal work with information (empathy – ideas – prototype – testing). Critically reflects on personal use of artificial intelligence and considers the ethical implications for everyday decision-making. 2) Towards others Describes and compares library, commercial, and digital information services from the perspective of the user and provider. Proposes a basic concept for a community information service with regard to the needs of different user groups. Creates and defends a prototype of an information service, including an evaluation plan. 3) To the profession Explains the main theories and paradigms of information science and places them in the current context. Applies the principles of information organization (classification, metadata, taxonomy/folksonomy) to a small data set or collection. Formulate ethical and legal-political aspects of working with information (open access, governance, AI regulation) and be able to argue about them. 4) To the world Identify key megatrends (digitalization, datafication, climate crisis, globalization) and explain their impact on the information society. Applies the STS perspective to interpret technologies as cultural and social phenomena and links it to LIS. Overall graduate profile Understands the basic concepts, theories, and methods of information science and STS. Designs and evaluates information services using a design approach and with regard to ethics and the impact of AI. Connects the field with user needs, professional practice, and social and cultural contexts.
