- A general orientation in the history, key texts, main concepts, and the overall development within the Buddhist tradition. The focus will be placed on the origins of Buddhism as such, what comprised and defines Buddhism, during later lectures moving toward Mahayana Buddhism and its historical spread in Japan and to the Western world in the 20th century.

- By the end of the course, students will be
- well versed in the historical and conceptual foundations of Buddhism;
- familiar with key concepts that define Buddhism;
- knowledgeable regarding the various Buddhist traditions and branches;
