Course objectives
Introduction to Serbian language. Bases of phonetics and spelling (Vuk Stefanović Karadžić, Cyrillic alphabet, spelling rules). Phonetic differences between Serbian and Czech. I language course is designed for beginners (texts, grammar exercises, basic vocabulary). Teaching is focused on practical language for everyday conversation and basic grammar. At the end of the course students should be able to speak and write in contemporary Serbian language.

  • Texts: Aerodrom Beograd, Prvi dan u institutu, Ko je ovo? Šta je ovo? U hotelu, U gradu, Porodica Popović, Koliko je sati, Nova drugarica, Dobro veče, Subota, Dolaze gosti, Raspored časova, Koncert, Posle koncerta, Imam jednu malu želju, Idemo u Smederevo, Roditelji Nikole Popovića, Volite li da putujete? Kako? S kim?, Pauza, Jedno prijatno veče, Marko je stigao iz Italije, Kod Silvije i Marka, Šta se desilo Milošu?, Kome pišeš?, Novi stan, Kakav je?, Šta voli? Grammar: Verb to be, nominative singular noun, personal and possessive pronouns, locative of nouns in the singular with preposition u and at, the basic numbers, verbs in the present, verb to have, locative plural of nouns, adjective and pronouns, genitive singular with the prepositions before, after, of, to, from, verbs in the present tense on -em and -am, genitive plural nouns, modal verbs, accusative singular and plural nouns, adjectives and pronouns, numbers, accusative singular and plural with preposition in and on and with verbs of movement, Instrumental singular and plural nouns, adjectives and pronouns, past tense of the verbs ending with -ti, nouns and adjectives locative with preposition in and on, past tense of verbs ending with -ći, dative singular and plural of nouns, adjectives and pronouns, verbs to wish, want and can in past tense, dative with the preposition to, accusative singular and plural of nouns, adjectives and pronouns, descriptive adjectives

Teaching methods
Serbian: Seminars, 1½ hours per week, plus half an hour tutorials to be arranged individually with students.
Assessment methods
The course has a form of a class discussion. Conditions for joining the final test: - A maximum of 3 absences, all homework (a total of 10 for the grammatical subject and 10 for the lexical items)35% Examination: - The test has two parts, grammar and vocabulary. In order to pass the test a student must have 70% of each exercise correct) 65%.
