- Course objectives
- The aim of the course is to familiarize students with the system of career guidance from a lifelong learning perspective. Gradually, attention will be given to the institutional framework, individual services, integration of the topic into the curriculum, guidance theories, and the role and activities of a guidance counselor. Practical guidance skills will also be actively practiced in the form of a workshop.
- Learning outcomes
- After completing the course, the student is able to: - Identify key organizations and institutions providing career guidance - Demonstrate knowledge of theories of career decision-making and career guidance - Identify career guidance services in the initial education period - Understand the issues of career guidance for specific groups and the unemployed - Use online tools to support the client - Explain the functioning of further education in the context of individual development - Explain the role of the counselor in the counseling process and the essence of distance counseling
- Syllabus
- Course outline:
- 1. Career guidance services in the Czech Republic and Europe, trends in conceiving and services provision, quality evaluation of career guidance services, the role of this services for employment policy, education policy and social inclusion policy.
- 2. Career education as parts of career guidance services
- 3. Career information and support people in obtaining and using the relevant information about themselves, the labour market and educational opportunities
- 4. Theories focusing on content: teories of career choice and decision making (e.g. Parsons, Holland, Schein) and how to use it in the guidance process
- 5. Theories of focusing on life-span process(Ginsber, Super)and how to use it in the guidance process
- 6. Currently theories of career development (Peavey, McMahon, Savickas) and how to use it in the guidance process
- 7. Career guidance counselling (process, aims, stage, scenarios and methodology of guidance process to support of career choice and career development of the client
- 8.-10. Training and reflection (contract between counsellor and client, counseling interview, career planning, professional dilemma, creativity in guidance and counselling etc.)

To complete the course, the workload is calculated as 125 hours (5 ECTS credits):
- Participation in classes (30 hours)
- Independent study of professional literature (40 hours)
- Solving ongoing tasks based on the analysis of sources and own work (25 hours)
- Preparation of an information package (15 hours)

1. participation in seminars (according to the agreed number of absences)
