Course objectives

The objective of the course is to make students aware of the domestic and foreign politics of the contemporary Ukraine (after 1991). As regards the domestic politics, the course deals with the political system of the Ukraine, with the relations between the centre and periphery etc. As regards the foreign politics, the course concentrates on the international position of the Ukraine in the world, diplomatic relations not only with the neighbouring states, geopolitical position of the country etc.

Learning outcomes

After completing the course, the student will be able to:
- to orientate in the major events of domestic and foreign policy of an independent Ukraine;
- analyze problems, threats and opportunities in the domestic and foreign policy of an independent Ukraine;
- describe the advantages and disadvantages of the political system of an independent Ukraine;
- identify important topics in Czech-Ukrainian relations since 1991.

Requirements for the completion of the course are the following: 1) attendance at the course at least 70%, 2) review of a scholarly article or publication on a selected topic (2 - 3 pages) or a written test. Completion: credit
