Course objectives
The aim of the one-semester discipline is to acquaint students with the historical development of contemporary Ukrainian in all spheres of the linguistic system, to outline the common and different features of Ukrainian compared to other Slavonic languages in the field of phonetics, morphology, lexicon and syntax. In addition, attending the course requires an introduction to the most important stages and history of the thinking and philosophy of Ukrainian linguists.
Learning outcomes
After completing the course the student will know the tendencies of the development of Ukrainian language as well as knowing about its history.
Syllabus
  • 1. Course assignments. The most important sources of study of the development of historical development of Ukrainian. 2. Ukrainian among other Slavic languages. Common and different features of Ukrainian, Russian and Belorussian. 3. Origin of Ukrainian. The basic stages of its development and formation. 4. Beginnings of the Ukrainian standard language. 5. Subject of study of historical phonetics. Formation of the phonetic and phonological system of Ukrainian. 6. Historical morphology. 7. Historical syntax. 8. History of Ukrainian orthography 9. History of Ukrainian Linguistics (Linguistics of the Old Ukrainian Period) 10. History of Ukrainian Linguistics (20th century) 11. History of Ukrainian Linguistics (2nd half of 20th and beginning 21st century)
