Course objectives

In the introductory lessons there will be presented the basic literature concerned by presenting and evaluating the syntheses of literary history in the 20th century, including the literary history from 1999. In following lectures the main "controversial" themes will be dealt with (e.g. the love lyric poetry of the Middle Ages, medieval legends, genre system of Renaissance literature, the understanding of Baroque literature, the importance of J.A. Komenský, artistic value of Baroque homiletics).

• - basic literature concerning the topic, comparison of syntheses of literary history
• - the problems concerning medieval legends
• - "controversions" around love lyric poetry of the Middle Ages
• - specifics of the protestant literature in the 15th century
• - genre system of the humanistic period in Czech literature
• - Renaissance books of travel as a sign of the changing ideas of the era
• - Komenský between humanism and Baroque
• - homiletics as a basic genre of Baroque literature
• - questions around Baroque legends
• - folk and semi-folk literature of the 18th century
