- Course objectives
- The first introduction to the Croatian / Serbian language, basic vocabulary: conversational formulas, addressing, greetings, the ability to have completely simple conversation, the ability to describe the people and the environment. The basic grammatical rules: the correct pronunciation of Croatian / Serbian letters, stress, reading and writing texts in the Cyrillic (Serbian), the most important declination of masculinum femininum and neutrum types, present tense forms of verbs, future tense. At the end of the course students should be able to speak and write in contemporary Serbian/Croatian language. Croatian language for beginners, basic vocabulary, grammar and phonetic specifics of Croatian. Practising and deepening of the acquired knowledge.By the means of acquiring new vocabulary and grammar they can create text or speak about related topics. Students are able to understand written text and interpret it.
- Syllabus
- Lessons of practical Croatian / Serbian language, basic vocabulary, expressions necessary for the normal everyday communication, a system of nouns, verb types, basic prepositional structures, the most important conjunctions. Lessons are based on the structure of the textbooks (Srpski jezik za strance, Srpskohrvatski jezik za strance, Hrvatski za početnike 1, Dobro došli etc.).

- Teaching methods
- Serbian: Seminars, 1½ hours per week, plus half an hour tutorials to be arranged individually with students. Croatian: Seminars 4 hours per week (gramatical and lexical exercises, conversation topics).
- Assessment methods
- Serbian: active participation in the seminar 35% (which is allowed a maximum of 3 absence), homeworks 15% and written midterm test 50%. Croatian: Regular attendance, homework and home preparation required. Upon fullfilling all requirements listed the students must pass a final test.
