Course objectives
The aim of the course is to acquaint students with different types of apocrypha and problems concerning their dating and preservation, and refer to their specific features in comparison with the canonic texts of Bible. The phenomenon of gnosis will be analyzed on the basis of selected texts discovered in the locality Nag Hammadi. The course involves reading several parts of the apocryph gospels in Czech with commentaries (e. g. so-called Secret Gospel according to Mark, Gospel according to Thomas, Judas, Peter etc.) with regard to the original Greek version as well as to the Coptic and Latin one (according to the individual skills of the students). Knowledge of the referenced languages is welcomed; however, it is not necessary for passing out the course.
