Course objectives
The aim of the course is to provide students with the basic knowledge of French.
Syllabus
  • 1. Pronunciation (listening excercises), stress, intonation, liaison.
  • 2. Salutations, introducing oneself. Pronunciation - practice.
  • 3. Declarative and interrogative sentences. Reading simple texts.
  • 4. Intonation of declarative sentence, rhytmical group, article, verb "faire".
  • 5. Liaison, plural of nouns and adjectives. Dictation.
  • 6. Intonation, nasal vowels, contracted article, possesive pronouns.
  • 7. Gender of nouns, definite and indefinite article. Reading.
  • 8. Open, close and terminal consonants. Future periphrastic. Preposition after expressions of multitude. Dictation.
  • 9. Liaison - practice. Dependent possesive pronouns. Irregural formation of feminine adjectives. Reading.
  • 10. Demonstrative pronouns and independent personal pronouns. Pronunciation - practice.
  • 11. Verbs of the 3rd class, contraction of articles, numerals. Dictation.
  • 12. Pronunciation, grammar, reading - revision.
  • 13. Obligatory liaison, command, personal pronouns in positive command. Near future.
  • 14. Reading, relative pronouns, pronominal adverbs "y" a "en". Dictation. Passé compossé, infinitive constructions, irregular verbs.
  • 15. Pronunciation - practice.
  • 16. Past tense of reflexive verbs, emphasis, irregural formation of plural. Dictation.
  • 17. Position of pronoun in a sentence, prepositional constructions. Speaking.
  • 18. Reading. Interrogative pronouns. Infinitive constructions.
  • 19. Comparison of adjectives. Ordinal numerals. Pronunciation - practice.
  • 20. Dual. Imperfect. Dictation.
  • 21. Derivation of words, dual in abstracts, pronouns "le", "la", "les". Reading.
  • 22. Present subjunctive. Irregural comparison of adjectives. Conjugation of verbs.
  • 23. Future tense, present conditional, conditional sentences. Dictation.
  • 24. Past subjunctive. Revision.

Teaching methods
All the basic methods of CLT programme (Communicative Language TEaching)are used: individual, pair, group activities (conversation, practice, drill). Audition. Homework extended to e-learning self-study. 90% of teaching is in French.

Written final test.
