Course objectives
The aim of the course Professional translation II is the application of theoretical knowledge of basic translation procedure to translate a particular text. Course lectures will focus on the introduction to the theory of a legal, journalistic, administrative, technical, and literary-theoretical text. In the seminar part of the course students will apply acquired knowledge to his own translation of the relevant texts from French into Czech.

  • 1st bibliography of texts for translation 2nd familiarization with the most common translation techniques in the translation of the text, defining the problem areas 3rd translations of specific texts and translations of a common analysis

Teaching methods
Familiarization with the theoretical problems of translation of journalistic and legal, administrative, technical, and literary-theoretical text. Translation of texts from French into Czech. Joint analysis of specific texts translated, defining translation processes. Application of acquired knowledge on authentic texts.
Assessment methods
Final written exam - language text of the thematic focus. Condition for admission to the examination is active participation in seminar (80%) and continuous production of the specified translation.
