Course objectives
At the end of the course Professional Translation II, the student will be able to apply theoretical knowledge of the basic translation processes, which are introduced in the lecture (theory of legal, public affairs, administrative and literary text), to the translation of a particular text. At the end of the course Professional Translation II, the student will have the knowledge on technical consecutive interpretation,on interpreter´s note and will have a basic knowledge of the methods of practicing simultaneous interpretation, and interpretation with the text. (Part of the course will be devoted to the training of professional consecutive interpretation and introduction to simultaneous translation.)
Syllabus
  • 1) bibliography and links to electronic dictionaries and terminology databases, which students use for translation of texts 2) familiarization with the most common translation techniques in the translation of the text, defining the problem areas 3) translations of specific texts and translations of a common analysis 4) training of professional consecutive interpretation and introduction to simultaneous translation.

Teaching methods
Familiarization with the theoretical problems of translation of journalistic and legal, administrative, technical, and literary-theoretical text. Translation of texts from French into Czech. Joint analysis of specific texts translated, defining translation processes. Application of acquired knowledge on authentic texts.
Assessment methods
Final written exam - theoretical part of the test (introduction to French legal and administrative system) and language text of the thematic focus.Condition for admission to the examination is continuous production of the specified translation. Oral examination - interpretation. The student must also complete a course in the ELF (e-learning).
