Course objectives
The aim of this course is to introduce both theoretical and empirical issues related to ethnic stereotypes and intercultural communication. At the end of this course students will be able to understand and explain what stereotypes are; what is their relationship to ethnicity; how does it relate to ethnology; what are the main concepts for intercultural communication; which methods can be used for empirical research on this topic.

  • Introduction to theory on stereotypes and ethnicity.
  • Concepts of intercultural communication.
  • Empirical aproaches to ethnic stereotypes.
  • Case studies reflecting stereotyping and intercultural communication.
  • Raising intercultural competence.
  • The role of ethnology in the intercultural awareness.
