The course is offered to beginners, no previous knowledge of Latin is therefore expected.

Course objectives
o basic knowledge of Latin morphology, elementary knowledge of Latin syntax o the ability to understand a simple Latin text o the ability to ask simple questions and answers in Latin o the ability to create a simple Latin text on selected topic, to have a simple conversation in Latin
Syllabus
  • 1) study instructions,introduction to teaching methods, Latin pronunciation, Familia Romana: Cap. I Imperium Romanum ( singularis/pluralis; est/sunt); 2) Cap. II. Familia Romana (masculinum/femininum/neutrum; Genitivus declinationis 1, 2 et 3); 3) Cap. III. Puer improbus (Nominativus/Accusativus; genera verborum; pronomina relativa) 4) Cap. IV Dominus et servi (Vocativus; imperativus/indicativus coniugationum omnium); 5) Revision of previous knowledge; 6) Cap. V Villa et hortus (Accusativus pl. decl. 1 et 2; praepositiones + Ablativus; pronomina personalia); 7) Cap VI Via Latina (praepositiones + Accusativus; activum/passivum; 3. pl. verborum); 8) Cap. VII Puella et rosa (pronomina demonstrativa; Dativus decl. 1 et 2); 9) Cap. VIII Taberna Romana (abire/adire; tantus/quantus; pronomina); 10) Revision of previous knowledge; 11) Cap. IX Pastor et oves (masc. + fem. declinationis 3); 12) Cap. X Bestiae et homines (verba secundum „capio“; vult/volunt; infinitivus act./pass.; 13) students´ presentations on selected topics.

Teaching methods
The subject is taught as a SEMINAR. This interactive course applies the teaching methods used in modern languages, class participation and home preparation are therefore necessary.
Assessment methods
Requirements for successful completion of the course: regular class attendance (students may miss 3 classes altogether); passing the final test (passing limit 70%). To be allowed to take exam, students have to make a presentation on selected topic.
