This seminar is planned for students in their Bachelor's degree program who would like to prepare for the written part of the Bachelor's degree examination.

Course objectives
The aim is to train the students' abilities to use dictionaries, to find better search results for their queries and also the ability to contxtually decide which synonym in the target language fits best. We shall further train the ability to identify grammatical relations in komplex sentences in order to increase the textual understanding and to be able to reproduce complex sentences in the target language.
Syllabus
  • - Initial translation to identify the weaknesses in translation - Test regarding the individual translaion and language problems - collective debriefing of the test - Use of suitable dictionaries (PPT presentation): * advantages and disadvantages of the individual dictionaries * practical examples of search queries to demonstrate situations in which one dictionary is preferrable to another one - efficient use of search engines (PPT presentation): * to find terms in the target language which cannot be found in common dictionaries * to use placeholders and the number of hits to determine the most suitable term and to find the correct prepositions and connectors * to exclude certain words from the query * with regards to the advanced search * and ore - texs for translation (Czech-German and vice versa) as homework with follow-up sessions for discussion (6-8 sessions) - final test (45 minutes Czech-German and 45 Minuten vice versa)
