Course objectives
The course acquaints students with basic problems of lexicology, lexicography and semantics, and namely including the content, history and future of these disciplines. In the branch of lexicology an emphasis is laid on the structure of Polish vocabulary and basic lexical relations among lexems. In the part of lexicography an attention is paid above all to the problematics of formation of dictionnary works (dictionnary entries) and to the overview of the most important dictionnary works of Polish. In the semantic part the students are acquainted with basic notions of sense in the linguistics and language philosophy, sorts of senses and basic semantic relations. The overview of phraseological problematics makes also a part of explanation. The explanation is completed by practical exercises. At the end of the course the students should be able to know terminology of lexicology and semantics, to understand theoretical base of both disciplines and to be able to explain and use them in practice.
