Course objectives
The aim of the course is to enable students to reach an elaborate knowledge of philosophical texts by reading and interpreting particular texts. Particularly topics still aside the main stream of ancient philosophy are discussed.
In the end of the course, students should be able to interpret the chosen philosophical texts, should distinguish particular philosophical genres, including their particularities.
Syllabus
  • Syllabus is actualized according to particular list of texts to be analyzed, which is accomodated to student's preference. Each topic is supposed to be discussed in three following lessons. 1. Homer's and Hesiod's mythological epos versus philosophical epos by presocratic philosophers. 2. Dark moments of presocratical thinking 3. Socrates personality in the mirror of Plato, Xenophon and Aristophanes 4. Plato's dialog - philosophical drama of ideas. Written text - tomb of philosophy?
