- Course objectives
- The course offers a systematic overview of the basic grammatical phenomena of Modern Greek phonology, morphology and syntax. The course includes the practice of discussed grammatical phenomena using the grammatical exercises, reading and writingof modern greek texts, conversation and writing od Modern Greek. The main aim of the course is to make students familiar with basic grammatical phenomena of Modern Greek language and be able to describe nad aply them in language communication (CEFR A0-A1).
- Learning outcomes
- At the and of the course, student will reach the level CEFR A0-A1 and:
- will be able to aply the discussed grammatical phenomena and the new vocabulary in spoken and written Modern Greek;
- will be able to understand short Modern Greek texts of appropriate level, to translate them from Modern Greek into Czech and short simple texts from Czech into Modern Greek;
- will have mastered basic Modern Greek language linguistic terminology;
- will be capable of explaining grammatical phenomena they were taught. - Syllabus
- Grammar: Basics of Modern Greek Language, lessons 1-8: the alphabet, phonetics, the article, present tense active of 1st and 2nd conjugations, verbs ακούω, λέω, πάω, future imperfective of 1st and 2nd conjugation verbs, numerals, perfective imperative, regular substantives and adjectives.

- Teaching methods
- The course has a form of a seminar and lectures. Homework is required during semester – students prepare assigned grammatical exercises (Elf and Dril included) and short translations from Modern Greek into Czech and vice versa, e-learning exercises Elf (https://elf.phil.muni.cz/elf3/) and Dril (https://is.muni.cz/auth/dril/manage?akce=show_lekce;oblast_id=321;ucebnice_id=6221).
- Assessment methods
- Requirements for obtaining the credit: preparation of assignments within the deadline (Elf included), passing a mid-term test (min. 50%) and a credit written (min. 75%) test and at least 70% participation in lessons. Final written exam lasts 90 minutes and contains a dictate, translation from Czech to Greek and vice versa, filling in the correct form of various parts of speech in sentences and interpretation of grammatical phenomena. Preparation of e-learnig exercices (Elf).
