Course objectives
The course prepares the students to present a part of their Ph.D. research at a local conference, typically with conference language other than a world language. The course is registered in the semester when the conference takes place or in the immediately following semester.
Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to:
  • choose a topic from their Ph.D. research appropriate for presentation at a local conference;
  • prepare and submit a paper abstract and obtain its acceptance by the organizers of the conference;
  • prepare a paper (with presentation) or a poster;
  • present the paper or poster at a local conference;
  • work efficiently with feedback to the presentation at the conference.
  • Syllabus
    • Choice of a specific topic from the Ph.D. research prepared for presentation at a local conference.
    • Choice of a relevant conference, registration, submission of the abstract.
    • Preparation of the paper or poster.
    • Consultations of the paper or poster with the supervisor.
    • Finalization of the paper or poster based on the feedback from the supervisor.
    • Preparation of the presentation or poster.
    • Participation at the conference and presentation of the paper or poster.

    Teaching methods
    Individual work on a conference presentation of poster, with the help of the supervisor; discussion about feedback received from the supervisor; preparation of the paper or poster based on the feedback.
    Assessment methods
    Course participants submit (1) a proof of acceptance of the paper or poster, normally the conference programme or the book of abstracts, and (2) the presentation of poster as a file. The grade is awarded on the basis of the actual participation with the paper or poster (50%) and the academic and formal quality of the submitted poster or paper (50%). Another requirement is submission of the publication record in the IS MU publication database with basic bibliographic data (type of record, author, title of the presentation, event name, event date, organization unit, field, language, cooperating department, affiliation to a project).
