Course objectives
The aim of this subject is to encourage students to undertake research over an extensive period of time abroad, preferably at a university whose experts, or principal lines of research undertaken there, promise to enhance the students' grasp of their projects and to positively impact their writing. The minimum time required for a student to undertake research abroad is one month and it should take place ideally in the 3rd semester of doctoral studies. In case it is impossible for a student, due to serious circumstances, to undertake the research stay, the subject commision will decide on an appropriate manner of compensating for this activity.
Learning outcomes
A student's stay at a foreign university will demonstrate his or her capability of undertaking research in an international academic environment. It is an ivaluable way of gaining new professional insights, a much needed international awareness and knowledge of the state of the discipline abroad. Likewise, a stay abroad gives the students an opportunity to gain feedback from international experts as well as from their peers; it represents a unique opportunity for networking. All these factors will positively impact the process of dissertation writing.
  • Discussion of the envisaged stay abroad with the supervisor
