- Teaching methods
- The course is designed as lectures. Students are required to read literary writings in translation throughout the semester.
- Assessment methods
- Students take oral tests during the semester. They must not miss more than 3 tests. Their results may influence the final rating. The final written test will focus on the topics presented in class, then on Chinese terminology, their classification, and periodization (min. 70%). Some questions will require short answers (e.g. name 5 Tang dynasty poets), while other questions will require writing one or a few paragraphs (e.g. compare Qu Yuan's and Song Yu's poetic styles). You will also be asked to analyse a given text (e.g. describe the Buddhist motives in a poem or find its formal features: number of characters in a line, rhyming pattern etc.).
