Prerequisites
An oral exam covering the contents covered in the mandatory and compulsory-elective courses (topics and literature). The area of the examined topics is focused on the actual scientific activity of the doctoral student. Fundamental prerequisite for successfully completing the course is self-study, controlled study. The student makes extensive use of personal consultations with the supervisor. There is a minimum of three mandatory consultations.

Course objectives
At the state final examination, the student demonstrates their knowledge of a broader range of topics related to their doctoral thesis. The student also demonstrates their knowledge of the terminology, history, approaches and theories of musical science.
Learning outcomes
The student is able to:
- self-reliably, creatively and scientifically work within the context of musical science (including independently gaining and using professional knowledge, skills and competences in at least two languages) which is proven by their own long-term research work within the field,
- research autonomously within the context of the field and present original results of their work,
- defend the conclusions of their research during the debate.
Syllabus
  • The subject is focused on the topics of older and newer Czech and European music cultures with special attention to some topics: musical activities of religious brotherhoods in Moravia in early modern period, music at the royal courts, Leoš Janáček, Alois Hába, research of the audience taste, relationship of the music theory and aesthetics of the 19th and 20th century.
