Prerequisites
NOW( KSCA008 Chinese Language III )
- Upon entry, students are expected to have a solid proficiency level of CEFR A1.1 (or HSK 2).
- The course is offered EXCLUSIVELY to the students of the Chinese Department of Masaryk University.
- Exceptions could be made ONLY IF an Erasmus student has Chinese Studies as their major at their home university and if the student can present documented proof. Language proficiency certificates (HSK/TOCFL) are NOT accepted.

Course objectives
To help students familiarize themselves with contents already instructed in Chinese III. Enrollment is strongly recommended.
Learning outcomes
After completion of the course, students should be able to:
【Listening】
- understand paragraph-length utterances pertaining to a wide range of topics relating to daily and academic life.
【Speaking】
- sustain a conversation in coherent paragraphs;
- handle a wide range of tasks;
- narrate, describe, compare and contrast.
【Reading】
- identify a moderate number of character components and high-frequency characters;
- identify key facts and details in descriptive material in daily life;
- get the gist of semi-authentic and simple authentic Chinese texts on known topics.
【Writing】
- take notes in some detail; write simple letters, brief synopses, summaries and biographical data related to work and school scenarios;
- write an essay of 400-500 characters, comprising at least 3 paragraphs, dealing with topics covered by the textbook.

  • This course (Drill III) uses Integrated Chinese Level 2 Part 1 (Lesson 1-10; i.e., 10 lessons + 2 review weeks), following the order of the textbook's lessons.

Teaching methods
The course is taught by a native speaker who combines various methods of teaching - seminars, class discussion, conversation, homework, written/oral presentations, etc.
Assessment methods
1) Attendance (up to 2 unexcused absences are allowed in one semester). In case of 3 or more unexcused absences, the student fails.
2) In order for an absence to be excused, the student should approach the Study Department of the Faculty with an official request.
3) The student needs to fulfill all the tasks given by the teacher (assignments, presentations, etc.) Unpreparedness is judged as absence.
4) Students must not switch study groups, unless the teacher explicitly approved.
