In order to be admitted to the Master's state examination in the Latin Language and Literature, the student must
a) succesfully complete Bachelor's state examination;
b) gain credits prescribed by his or her study plan;
c) submit Master’s thesis, if he or she is a student of major or single-study (completus) study plan. - Course Enrolment Limitations

- Course objectives
- The aim of the Master's state examination is to prove whether a student have reached learning outcomes of the Master's programme Latin Language and Literature as prescribed by his or her study plan.
- Learning outcomes
- A successful student should be able to:
describe the phonological and morphological development of Latin from the archaic period until late antiquity and, subsequently, until the end of the Middle Ages
apply selected theoretical approaches to compare the grammar of classical Latin with some aspects of archaic, vulgar and late Latin;
illustrate the main features of ancient and late Latin literature, its genre stratification and its development towards Middle Ages;
sketch the historical, philosophical, and religious backgrounds of the development of the society in antiquity
translate more complicated Latin prose and poetic texts into Czech language;
describe the main features of the prosody of classical and mediaeval poetry and read selected types of more complicated metres.
Requirements differ according to the study plan chosen by the student. - Syllabus
- Contents of the Master's state final examination
- 1. Detailed knowledge of Latin grammar and essentials of Latin linguistics (in the case of students who chose lingustic topic for their Master's thesis).
- 2. Detailed knowledge of Roman literature and its development in late antiquity and towards to the Middle Ages, knowledge of literary theoretical approaches applied in the research into ancient and medieval literature (in the case of students who chose literary topic for their Master's thesis).
- 3. General knowledge of philosophical, historic and religious background of the development of the ancient society.
- 4. Thorough knowledge of the prescribed readings, ability to translate and analyze these texts, correctly read poetic texts:
