Course objectives
The aim of the course is to introduce the students of English philology to both the history and current trends of Anglophone studies in the Czech context. The course will consist of thematic lectures, which will - both diachronically and synchronically - cover the most crucial topics in Czech English studies, including literary studies and linguistics. Particular attention will be paid to English Studies in Brno. The course is also suitable for students of other departments and programmes.
Learning outcomes
At the end of the course, students will have broadened their horizons in English Studies, especially in terms of their Czech context. They will get familiar with the key scholars and schools of thought of Czech English Studies. They will know research done at Czech institutions and will be able to appreciate its contribution to Czech and foreign literary studies, linguistics and translation studies.
