- Course objectives
- This seminar course introduces students to interesting topics and phenomena in contemporary Japanese society. Topics covered will include: the characteristics of consumer society, popular culture, demographic changes in contemporary Japanese society and the problems associated with these changes. The seminar will be conducted in a discussion environment, with students actively participating in the class.
- Learning outcomes
- Upon proper completion of the course, students will be able to:
place individual social phenomena in the broader context of Japanese culture
critically view the complex social phenomena of contemporary Japan
apply academic practices to issues of Japanese society - Syllabus
