Course objectives
The seminar is not designed as a consistent biography neither as a thorough analysis of the work of Karel Teige. It will rather try to show the art and society of the twenties and thirties through the personality of Teige. The many interests of Teige will enable us to go through many aspects of the cultural life in the "first republic".
Syllabus
  • The studies of Teige from the 1920s and 1930s will lead us through the world of the avantgarde between the wars. Teige is presented in them as:
  • - poetist, surrealist and constructivist
  • - theoretician, organizer and bohem
  • - poet, fine artist and architect
  • - revolutioner, communist and rebel
