- Course objectives
- The aim of this four-semester course of literary Chinese (wenyan) is to offer a systematic introduction into the study of language of Chinese classsical texts and to introduce a basic reading of classics, including the formal and content interpretation of selected texts, so that the students can continue independent readings of commented texts with the help of dictionary and reference literature. Part II realizes first reading of artificially composed texts with a limited vocabulary that contain basic grammatical phenomena of wenyan. Proper syntactic analysis of all sentences, including graphic schematic illustration of their structure, is a rule. Each text is complemented by a grammatical explanation and a whole range of excercises (independent translations from wenyan into Czech and from Czech into wenyan, questions and answers). The course partly uses textbook of H. Shadick.
